Description Old Spring Street Viaduct, looking upstream. New Spring Street Arc bridge can be seen in the background of the photograph. Old North Spring Street Bridge, looking downstream, originally called Downey Avenue viaduct. The Downey Avenue bridge was built in 1876 shortly after construction of the Macy Street bridge This photo was taken during construction of the New Spring Street bridge. Downey Avenue is currently a portion of North Broadway east of the Los Angeles River.
