Marchessault Street from Alameda Street, looking east, showing Chinatown, before construction of Union Station. Automobiles, adults and children on sidewalk, overhead sign for Chop Suey. City engineers took these historic photos before approximately 3,000 residents were evicted in 1937. Twenty-five blocks were razed in 1938 to allow construction of railroad tracks for the new passenger terminal. |
